I wroted something! (With seashadows!)

Yeah, I'm still alive. Things have been wild, and I've discovered Tumblr. I post (and mostly repost) over there as WikdSushi. I think I'll probably have this name for life. :D

ANYWAY. Before I get some sleep, I wanted to post that Seas (yes, we're still dating ♥) and I are working on an open-ended modern-day Hobbit AU, in which... well, Tolkien based the Dwarves on the Jewish people. You know, the diaspora, hated by many, stereotypes about greed, etc, etc. So Seas got the awesome idea a while ago to RP everyone as humans in a modern-day setting, complete with modern-day influences and world history. The Company (save Bilbo) and their families are all members of the same Hillel (think a YMCA, but Jewish), and go there every Friday night for Shabbat dinner. It takes off from there, and I don't mind saying it's one hell of a ride. :D

Sons of Jerusalem is up at AO3. Rating is explicit (as of the fourth chapter, heheheh--yes, I had to write porn), pairings are listed at the top. A few more eventually develop, but some don't happen for years. Many, many years.

So go! Read! Comment! Enjoy! Come for the challah, stay for the sex! :D Because seriously, with no quest, aim, or real outlet, these guys will sooner or later get up to some serious shit. (May or may not include train surfing.)

Actual (Brief) Update

This is going to be brief because I need a shower, then to get a ton of stuff done, but....

How many of you remember Baby and Crowley, the cats asshat kept?

Guess who liberated them from his house a couple of weeks ago with the aid of the wonderful and amazing spacezombie?

The long and short is, they were neglected. Terribly. The house reeked of urine, there was cat shit in every room, the litter box room was so bad I couldn't breathe in there, the boxes looked like they hadn't been changed in months, and the cats?

Let's just say I had to get both hands X-rayed once the cats were in a stable enough position I could leave them for a while. The pantry door may or may not have suffered injury as well.

Both cats got shaved. Crowley had major, major dental work, and Baby needs less major work and the cyst on her tail removed. They were in psychologically horrible shape--they'd given up. When the vet thanks you for bringing them in, you know it's bad. In the end, I kept Baby, and Will (Spacezombie) took Crowley, and both of them are so happy. When we let them out of their carriers into their nice, new, clean, but still new and strange and strange-cat-scented homes, they hurried straight out. And SNIFFED! And LOOKED AROUND! And PURRED! Oh, they were happy. =) Sooooooooooo haaaaaaaaappy.

They're still getting used to the other cats, and I haven't gotten Baby's dental work done, but they're in good places now. They've stopped hiding, they come see people now (even Baby, who's never liked strangers--makes me wonder what asshat did to her even when I was still around), and they and their new siblings are gradually coming to terms. Baby doesn't like to leave my room, but that's okay. Pea's getting comfortable with coming in, and Baby's getting comfortable with letting her be here.

And, I, for one, am much more contented knowing my babies are finally cared for and safe.

Thinky, spoilery Star Trek thoughts.

Other than that, I totally got the most amazing idea for a sewing or knitting project from Harrison's costume. :D And I love the ground uniforms, the gray suits with the colored plastic triangles at the shoulders. Why can't those be the on-ship uniforms, too? And why can't women wear pants? And who was the gorgeous, muscular black woman on the bridge, the one with just the barest dusting of hair? :D

Hobbitfic!

If anyone's interested, seashadows and I co-wrote a Hobbit fic called "Things Youngsters Do". It's about young Kili and Ori, equivalent to about 13 in human years, and what happens when Ori opens up to Kili just a little bit about his miserable home life--and Kili's plot get him out.

Rating is roughly PG-13 for child abuse. Mild slash of the 13-year-olds-with-a-crush variety. It's about 8500 words long, but a pretty quick read. Oh, and one scene involves a very spoiled three-legged cat. :D
